Joyce Singha-Ghosh: Strength and Style

I’d like to let the readers of Politisite know how I will miss Ms. Singha’s articles, and of course, the strong and confident lady herself.

As a writer, I can ‘taste’ if you will, the character of someone when they put their voice on the ‘page’ in commentary or in an op-ed piece.

And Joyce was no exception.

When I read her work here on this news site, I was struck by her boldness. Many writers come off either as arrogant or diminutive when giving an opinion on an item of news. But Joyce did neither. Her articles were non-aplogetic and like a projectile shot from a compound bow, the arrow sought its target and pierced deeply. No one reading her work could have any doubt as to what she was trying to say. And say it she did, without some apprehensive, hat-in-hand plea for acceptance.

For instance, here’s one of her comments to me on an article I wrote on Obama’s lack of respect for his – or rather, The People’s – position which he was given,

Nice article. Enjoyed reading it.
I too wrote about his feet/shoes on the Oval office table. Obama has a certain disdain for all things American. It’s there in his face and sometimes I feel he has some grudge against the country. His agenda so far has been to bring it down which he’s continuing to do quite mercilessly. I just hope he doesn’t succeed.

Note how straight-in the words of her comment are, how they don’t ‘ask for acceptance,’ how they don’t beg to approach. The woman simply tossed her opinion onto the mat without hesitation or trepidation.

And at the same time, she employed restraint. There was no name-calling or vitriol, no typical Liberal rant on how stupid Obama is, or how goofy he looks. Like all true Conservative women, she was composed and classy. And like all true Conservatives columnists, she stuck to the issue and left off the ad-hominum.

She thinks it, she says it.

That’s the way her articles run as well. No shying away, no avoiding the central complaint, no playing the ‘nice girl’ in sacrificing truth for tact.

No, this lovely, bright, and admirable woman was able to put on the mantle of a real “lady” and still keep her weapons of attack as sharp as a razor, wielding them well.

I regret that I didn’t actually know her, but considering we live in separate regions of the country, that would be difficult. I did have the pleasure of speaking to her briefly on a conference call with our editor once, and even then I was struck by the power of her personality. She was very pleasant and yet, being the only female on the line several men, didn’t let any of us guys outspeak her in the conversation.

I will miss her words. I will miss her voice. And whether this world knows it or not, it will miss her strength and power for the Conservative cause.

May God hold Joyce Singha in His loving arms until that day when we all meet in His presence.
