A Nation of ???

“No, I’m just saying that the Koran is not the word of God, the Bible is, and Islam is a false religion.”

Forty years ago, no American would have the least worry about uttering such a sentence in public. In fact, a generation ago, one wouldn’t give a second thought to declaring that Islam, or any other religion, is Satanic, evil, the Devil’s errand.

That was then, this is now.

Picture yourself in a restaurant, a latte in front of you, talking with a friend. There you sit, comfortable, relaxed, casually conversing with your buddy. You happen to look over and see a group of men at the next table. A group of men of what looks to be of Arab decent, all speaking in a foreign language. Now, ask yourself: Would you utter those words at the top of this page without concern?

Please understand, I don’t want to offend anyone. I’m not looking for a fight. I’m a Christian and am commanded by God to be kind to all people, whomever they be. However, it is one of the most valued tenets of our nation that one can say what they wish, however uncomfortable, barring obscenity, without the fear of physical threat.

It seems that is no longer the case in this country.

With the recent beheadings of the hostages that Isis has given us, along with 9/11, Benghazi, Israel’s troubles with the Palestinians, and a whole host of other Islamic born terrorism in the news past and lately, our nation has taken on a subtle change of climate.

The atheist would have no compunction whatsoever about bashing Christianity in the same restaurant in the same situation if he were to see several men at another table holding a Bible study, be they white, black, hispanic, or even, yes, of Arab decent. The most aggressive reaction they are likely to get is those same men joining hands and praying for the offending unbeliever.

In fact, Christianity is so benign and docile to those that would disagree with them and it is such a ready ‘whipping boy’ for the pagan, that movies, TV sitcoms, stand-up comedians and others regularly blaspheme the name of Christ with ebullient audacity. The jokes and mockery fly like a flock of geese, and all without the slightest hint of trepidation.
When was the last time you heard a comedy show or comedian make fun of Muhammad? When’s the last time you heard someone on television blather on about how stupid those idiot Muslims are? Islam is a restrictive religion with edicts of intolerance and limitations just like Christianity. In fact, the Muslim religion has certain prohibitions regarding women that make the most devout Christians blanch with indignation.

With the exception of Bill Mahar’s Johnny-come-lately views, Liberals are apparently not aware of such practices of Islam. No Christian in the last hundred years, to my knowledge, has been in the news because of ‘honor killings.’ No Christian in the last hundred years in any developed or even third world country has outlawed women walking on the sidewalk without a male escort.

Even the wacko Westboro Baptists haven’t beheaded anyone.

“Isis is not Muslim!” the President was quick to inform us. However, he wasn’t so quick to assert that Wesboro is not Christian. I’m not sure why, although I have an idea.

The point is, as bad as the pathetic Westboro people are, no one would mind in the least telling them to their faces that they are minions of Satan. I’d love to point out to them their anti-Christian behavior myself. But would I be so forthcoming with a group of Islamic men standing at a bus stop?

How did we get here? How did America who’s freedoms have demanded blood over the last two hundred plus years get to the point where we are afraid, literally afraid, to offend one particular religion?

We’ve lost our Judeo-Christian heritage, that’s how.

Our long-standing tradition of God and country has been destroyed by the Leftists, leaving in their Marxist wake a void of insipid neutrality. Where once the Ten Commandments overshadowed our children and our consciences, now a discolored square of blank wall resides in its place.

Okay Obama, you said that, “we are no longer a Christian nation.” Fine. Fine, Ms. Pelosi, fine Ms. Reid, fine Mr. Rove, Mr. Heins-Kerry, Mr. H. Clinton, and all you others who would declare America a, ‘Nation of Nothing.’ You won. Bravo! We are no longer a nation of the Christian faith.

Fine.

But be advised- we will be a nation of something, make no mistake. And I fear that something is in the works right now, right under our noses.

I’ve quoted Edmund Burke before, but a rcollection is warranted. He said, “The only thing for evil to abound is for good men to do nothing.”

I’m not saying that those in Washington are doing nothing. Far from it. They have been doing far from nothing for that last several decades, and are still hard at it. No, the problem isn’t that their actions don’t comport with the verb of Burke’s quote, it is that they don’t correspond with its adjectival noun.

So, here we all are, wringing out hands and wondering what’s gone so wrong with our once free and secure United States of America.

Beware the Ides of March.
